You learned how to build a website, and now you want to start freelancing and make some money on the side. But you are concerned that there is too much competition and everyone tells you that the market is saturated, so is it really still possible to make some money selling websites?
1 – Look at online Freelance Websites
If you check online freelancing websites, such as upwork.com or freelancer.com, you will see there thousands of requests for web developers to build or fix websites. This just proves that there is still a huge demand for this kind of services and skills.
So this could be a starting point for you to make some money selling websites, but is not really the easiest start. This is because in this kind of platforms you are competing with thousands of other web developers from all over the world, and most of them from third world countries, and they charge really low prices, and might be difficult to compete against them.
They could charge something like $50 USD to build a website, that takes like 20 hours to finish, but you don’t really want to work 20 hours for only $50 USD right?
Another thing is the reviews, once you get started in this kind of websites, if you don’t have any previous job done, and no review at all, it might be hard to get your first client. So the best way will be to work almost for free in the first few jobs in order for you to get your first reviews, to give you some credibility for the future.
Once you have a couple of reviews it will be easy for you to get more clients and potentially start to charge more money for your services, and remember the good thing about this kind of platforms, is that you don’t have to go and look for clients, they are all here. If you do some good jobs the reviews will reflect it, and could be making thousands of dollars per month.
2 – Let everyone know you build Websites
Now in my opinion the best way to start making some money building websites, is to let all your friends and family know that you can do this kind of service.
You will be surprised with how many you know that actually need a website. Maybe you have a neighbour who is selling flowers and need a website for their business, or you have a friend that is a DJ and needs a website to promote his services, really there’s always someone who needs a website!
You shouldn’t charge them too much money if you still don’t have too much experience, and this will help you get the experience of dealing with clients and building the websites.
As you will get more and more experience, you can start raising your prices, and just like in the online freelancing websites, if you do a good job, people will most likely refer you to other business, which will bring you more clients, this is like a snowball effect.
Nowadays every business needs a website, to promote their business and to let people know that they exist, creating brand awareness.
So yes its still possible making some money selling websites, and this is really one of the best times for you to start earning some money with it.
